@Doctor Eye Health Irregular surface of cornea after accident. Can surgery help.. Can anything? I’ve been told by optometrist that contact lenses are now his only options to restore vision adequately (and remove double vision at certain angles), which glasses can’t do.
I never considered surgery, never asked. But can it be considered?

clwade, Im pretty sure night vision problems is a vitamin A defiency Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin look into it. Grass fed butter, Liver and Cod liver oil all good sources of fat soluble vitamins

I had SMILE laser eye surgery 7 months ago. I had “somewhat dry” eyes prior to surgery but the eye doctors said I was still a good candidate. I now suffer from blurry vision due to the poor tear quality caused by the surgery. I struggle to read small text and driving at night is dangerous. I regret getting it done big time! If you have even remotely dry eyes do not get laser eye surgery!!

I got the surgery when it was just out of experimental about 30 years ago, when it was still done with a scalpel and a steady hand. I am thankful every single day that I got it and have had practically perfect eyesight since then up until two years ago when age related problems have made me buy reading glasses.

Love the Q&A Doc! The LASIK question was a great question and your answer was very insightful. It’s something I’ve pondered over the years myself but determined my lifestyle isn’t hindered enough by glasses and contacts to be worth the effort.

Go to a reputable place for Lasik. Dont go to those places offering it for 300 bucks an eye. Where i went did in depth testing on my eyes, they offered 3 different types of procedures and based on your eyes they tell you whats best for you and why. I had SBK lasik and the next morning my vision was at 20/15, and it stayed there. They told me before i had the procedure that i would more than likely get to 20/15 due to having healthy eyes.

And be careful about using insurance to help you pay for the procedure. Sometimes insurance companies only pay for certain procedures despite the fact that that particular procedure may not be best for you. Thats another factor that can play in to how likely you are to not get optimal results. Where i went was cash only, and that was their reasoning, they refused to let insurance companies dictate procedures to patients.

Just be smart about doing it

I was 20/60 both eyes wanted get LASIK for years heard so many horror stories then I went to work for Ophthalmologist and saw how they did surgery and did iLasik and now I see 20/15 both eyes!! Best thing I ever did!! I think the key is to research your doctor really well don’t look for the best deal either it’s your eyes don’t use Groupon!!

My doctor performed over 40,000 LASIK surgeries with a 100% success rate. Of course that’s just my doctor and not speaking for all, but I agree that no one should go to a doctor who accepts groupons. My doctor was on the expensive side and you have to book 3 months in advance cause he’s that high in demand. You only have 2 eyes—spend the extra money for quality.

@Doctor Eye Health You are right, even the Groupon deals and large companies that run tons of ads like LasikPlus and TLC still have excellent board certified surgeons. My particular surgeon was the first Military surgeon to carry out a refractive surgery at Walter Reed Medical Center in DC. On top of that he has nearly 30 years of experience. He’s only done it over 10,000 times, I have total confidence in his ability regardless of where they are employed.

I had lasik when I was 42. 20/60 in one and 20/150 in the other. Lasted 5 years 20/20 and back to glasses. If your eye grows front to back distance wise after lasik you will be nearsighted again. 20% more sensitive to sunlight for good as well. If I could go back in time would have skipped it.

Hi, I’m a Belgian optometrist. I would love to see a video on interpreting different OCT images (optic nerve, cornea, macula, …) Optometrists in Belgium are not allowed to make any diagnose, but I think it’s important that we can recognize different pathologies so we can refer quickly if needed to an ophthalmologist! Love your channel!

    1. Doctor Eye Health

Well you will love the education channel I am building specifically for eye doctors! Should be coming soon! I just had a good case today where I was able to use the OCT to rule out papilledema from ONH drusen in an 8 year old child. Pretty cool.

Thanks for pointing out so neatly, why LASIK may not be a good idea plus that CRT lenses / “night lenses” are a very good alternative. I have them myself since 4 weeks now and absolutely love it! 🙂

  8. androidaleccc

I would actually love a video on ortho-k! I never really understood the idea that much. If either way you are wearing lenses half of the time (during the day with conventional or during the night with orthok) then why go with ortho-k that potentially gets less clear as the day goes on? Our doctors actually dont fit ortho-k so my exposure is rather limited.

  9. Kalasia Rose

Id love to see just a vision fun fact video! For example, the fact that we all have a blind spot correlating to the location of the optic nerve. My patients love little fun facts that i give throughout the preliminary exam

  10. Emma Wang

Would love to see a video about the new trifocal IOL lenses available now in US. I need to get lense replacement for NA pre-Glaucoma. Very little info out there even though they’ve been in EU for awhile.
